Getting a filling at Beacon Park Dental

A filling restores a tooth that has been damaged by decay, protecting it from further damage and relieving any pain or sensitivity you've been experiencing. It's one of the most routine treatments in dentistry, and at a private practice like ours, you'll have more time with your dentist than you might be used to.

We use tooth-coloured composite fillings as standard, so the result looks natural. We'll talk you through what's involved before we start and let you know what to expect during and after the procedure.

What is a tooth filling?

A dental filling replaces the part of a tooth that has been damaged or removed due to decay. Your dentist clears out the decayed area, cleans the cavity, and fills it with a material that restores the tooth's shape and function.

At Beacon Park Dental, we use composite resin — a tooth-coloured material that bonds directly to the tooth. This means the filling blends in naturally with the rest of your teeth, and in many cases we can preserve more of the healthy tooth structure than with older materials.

How much does a tooth filling cost?

The cost of a filling depends on the size of the cavity and how many teeth need treating. You'll receive a clear, itemised price before we begin, and there's no obligation to proceed if you're not happy with your quote. We maintain up-to-date pricing guidelines on our pricing page.

If you're looking to spread the cost of your dental care more broadly, our membership plans include routine check-ups and can help make regular care more predictable.

How does getting a filling work at Beacon Park Dental?

Your consultation

We'll examine the tooth, take X-rays if needed, and explain what we've found. You'll get a clear picture of what the filling involves and a price before we book anything in.

Your appointment

We'll apply a local anaesthetic to the area so you won't feel pain, then remove the decay and place the filling. Most appointments take around 30 to 60 minutes.

After your filling

You may notice some sensitivity around the tooth for a few days after the procedure — this is normal and usually settles on its own. We'll let you know what to expect before you leave, and you're welcome to call us if you have any concerns.

Do I need a filling?

Tooth pain, sensitivity to hot or cold, or discomfort when biting down, can all be signs of decay. In many cases, you won't notice a cavity at all until it's picked up at a routine check-up — which is one of the main reasons regular examinations are worthwhile.

If you haven't visited a dentist for a while, that's not a problem. We often see patients who are returning to dental care after a long gap, and we'll take things at whatever pace suits you.

Types of filling at Beacon Park Dental

Composite (tooth-coloured) fillings

Composite fillings are matched to the colour of your natural teeth and bond directly to the tooth structure. They're our standard choice for most cavities and are suitable for both front and back teeth.

Replacing old amalgam fillings

If you have older silver amalgam fillings that are worn, cracked, or you'd simply prefer a more natural appearance, we can replace them with tooth-coloured composite.

Large cavity fillings

For more extensive decay, a larger filling may be required. In some cases, if there isn't enough remaining tooth structure to support a conventional filling, we may recommend an inlay, onlay, or crown instead.

Children's fillings

We provide fillings for children in a calm, unhurried way, taking extra time to explain the procedure in terms they’ll understand so they feel at ease throughout.

Private fillings from an experienced team in Lichfield

We've been caring for patients in Lichfield since 2008, and a large part of what we do is straightforward general dentistry like check-ups, hygiene, and fillings. Many of the patients we see for fillings today have been coming to us for years, and bring their children and families too.

One of the differences between private and NHS dental care is time. At Beacon Park Dental, appointments are never cut short, and you'll always have the opportunity to ask questions and understand a procedure before your treatment begins.
